Exploding kittens kickstarter

On February 9, 2012, a newfangled iPhone dock became the site's first million-dollar project. With Exploding Kittens, Kickstarter's potential continues to grow exponentially. Like UNO, the deck is made up of cards with different attributes that force players to draw cards, shuffle the deck, or avert the exploding kittens in a variety of ways. Inman illustrated the cards, combining his Internet-friendly art style with the grand tradition of obliterating cute animals.Ī million dollar idea? For a rabid Internet audience, yes. The Exploding Kittens Kickstarter page describes the game as 'a highly strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette.' Players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an exploding kitten and loses the game. Exploding Kittens, a game invented out of sheer boredom, is now the most backed backed Kickstarter campaign in the site's history. Tonight, Exploding Kittens ends its month-long campaign with $8.7 million in production funds, an 85,000 percent increase over the original asking price.

Seven hours into the crowdsourcing campaign, the team earned $1,000,000. Backed by Inman's sprawling web presence, the trio decided a Kickstarter was the way to go. Elan Lee, Shane Small, and Matthew Inman, creator of the popular webcomic The Oatmeal, wanted $10,000 to design and publish Exploding Kittens, a new comedic card game.
